In-Person at Gilda's Club (7907 UW Health Ct, Middleton, WI 53562)

Description:

This two-part workshop series is designed by students of the UW-Madison Doctor of Physical Therapy program specifically for individuals navigating the effects of cancer and its treatments on their physical well-being. If you can't make it to the second workshop, we still encourage you to come!

In this first workshop we will explore the connection between cancer, treatment side effects (like neuropathy and fatigue), and an increased risk of falls. This workshop focuses on assessment and understanding your personal risk. You'll learn the purpose and meaning of common physical tests, including the Timed Up and Go, 30-Second Chair Stand, Grip Strength, and 4-Stage Balance Test. Additionally, we'll transition into action and prevention. You will receive a home exercise program targeting strength, endurance, and balance deficits identified in the assessments. Learn practical, safe, and effective exercises to build lower body strength, improve hand grip, and enhance dynamic balance, helping you regain confidence and maintain independence in your daily life. Time permitting, there will also be a Q&A session with student physical therapists to address your specific concerns.

The second workshop will be held Monday, February 23rd from 6-7pm. Learn more and register for the second workshop here.
